NEW PROJECT // Huis van Delft

jul. 06, 2022

The DNA of Delft, where past, present and future meet in Huis van Delft.

House of Delft was designed by former Chief Government Architect Ir Frits van Dongen and architect Patrick Koschuch. The starting point was that Huis van Delft brings two worlds together. the medieval city and the contemporary technological institutions of Delft.

This creates a connection between past, present and future, which is evident from the facade of the building, among other things. Much attention has been paid to details in the design to create a timeless and robust building.

“The concept of Huis van Delft was clear fairly quickly. The location calls for a building that, as a showpiece of the city, brings together two worlds: the medieval city center and the contemporary TU Delft with its magnificent innovations and inventions. It had to be the story of the pioneers of Delft. To bridge the gap between the past, the present and the future, we have taken the historic building – which sometimes no longer even exists – as the basis for the appearance of Huis van Delft. We did not want to make a literal translation of the original facades, but an abstraction of them. The further development of the concept is a repetitive process that took about a year to arrive at a new image”. It has been decided to intrigue residents, visitors and passers-by through the appearance and materialization of Huis van Delft. “We want to make them curious about what is happening inside and therefore be inviting. We have tried to create an almost optical illusion for Huis van Delft, which is very special in the world of architecture.”

We are pleased to be able to supply and assemble the natural stone for both the exterior and interior spaces of Huis van Delft.
